Note | Obituary from Toledo Blade, Mar 2, 2008: POPE Vivian (Unger) Vivian Pope passed away on Friday, February 29, 2008, after a long illness. She was born in Cleveland, OH on October 15, 1923. She was the daughter of Isaac Unger and Marion Schwartz Unger. Vivian attended Doan Elementary School and John Hay High School in Cleveland. She was a graduate of Western Reserve University in Cleveland prior to its merger with the Case Institute. Vivian earned a Master's Degree in Applied Social Sciences in 1951. She married Joseph Pope on February 1, 1949, and they relocated to Toledo in 1959. They were the proud parents of a son and two daughters. Vivian was employed as a caseworker for 20 years at the Lucas County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, retiring in the spring of 1989. She later served as a volunteer at Jones Junior High school for ten years. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in June of 1973 and by her brother, Earl Unger of Louisville, KY in January, 1990. She is survived by her son, Mike Pope of Toledo; a daughter, Marian Pope (George Ewing) also of Toledo, and daughter, Emily (Clarence) Dye of Farmington Hills, MI. Vivian is also survived by her grandchildren, Aimee Dye Harvey (Josh) of Livonia, MI, Melody Dye of Farmington Hills, MI, David Campbell of Westland, MI, and Jana Currie (Jeff) of Boise, ID. Also surviving are her three nieces, Eleanor Newnan of Austin, TX, Kathy Cosgrove of Bergen, NY, and Pamela Cornell of Newburgh, NY, and nephew, Mac Unger of Louisville, KY; in addition to other numerous cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the US. Friends may visit at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., on Monday, March 3rd, from 2 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of the donor's choice. |
