Note | STURDEVANT Robert H. Robert H. Sturdevant, a beloved husband and father, died Monday, March 23, 2009, after a long battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). The older of two children, Bob was born on February 27, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio to Harold V. Sturdevant and Louise Schulte. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949 and continued his education at Bowling Green University majoring in business administration. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity as was his father. Bob particularly enjoyed being on the swim team there and still holds a record for the backstroke. He then joined his father at Sturdevant, Inc., Toledo, Ohio, taking over the business when his father died and running it until he retired in 1997. Bob was particularly involved with his church, Christ the King, for many years. He was proud of his activities as a Boy Scout leader and often saw or read about some of his former scouts. Always an active man, he was a member of the Toledo Club, the Toledo Businessmen's Club, The Toledo Ski Club, and Kiwanis both in Toledo and Brooklyn, MI. He met his second wife, Sue Carol Church, M.D., while playing tennis with the Toledo Ski Club tennis league. They were married July 1, 1990, and spent the years together traveling, skiing, scuba diving, playing tennis and playing gin rummy. In 2000, they moved from their home in Lambertville, MI, to the home Bob designed and built on South Lake near Brooklyn, MI, making many friends there. He will be missed! Bob is survived by his wife, Sue; his sons, Daniel and Mark (Corinne) both of Toledo, OH; his daughters, Nedra Grussing (Dean) of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, Molly Vierra (Terry) of Boulder Creek, CA, Jill of Largo, FL, and Beth of Toledo, OH; two stepsons, Curt Church of Steamboat Springs, CO, and Scott Church (Lori) of Darien, CT; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Friends and family may visit at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King, 4100 Harvest Lane. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cure PSP, Executive Plaza III, 11350 McCormick Road, Suite 906, Hunt Valley, MD 21031 or the charity of the donor's choice.
