Charles Ernest Gibson

Fort Gratiot

Charles Ernest Gibson, 85, of Fort Gratiot passed away Friday, August 12, 2016.

He was born December 19, 1930 in Detroit to the late Edward and Olga Gibson. He married Ella Mae Jarvenpaa on June 21, 1958 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2016.

Charles graduated from Detroit Country Day High School in 1949. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Charles went to Wayne State University and completed his bachelor's degree in English. He owned and operated Gibson Business Printing Company for over 30 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge #158 and VFW Charles Schoor Post #796. He enjoyed playing table tennis, golf and tennis. Charles was an avid reader and history buff, and had fun boating and traveling. He had a passion for genealogy, and he loved people and having a good time.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Lee Gibson; three grandchildren, Andrea (Don) Wilkerson, Danielle Hebner and Shannon Hebner; two great grandchildren, Chelsea and Landon Wilkerson; his sister, JoAnn Graham; sister in law, Carol Hayes; sister in law, Helen (Don) Glemby; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother and sister in law, John (Mary) Gibson, and his brother and sister in law, Don Jarvenpaa and Jean Jarvenpaa.

Graveside Military Honors will be conducted under the Auspices of the St. Clair Co. Allied Veterans Honor Guard on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11am in the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Cemetery Columbarium. Lunch and memories of Charles at Fort Gratiot County Park following the Military Honors Ceremony.

Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans .

Arrangements are by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron.
