Note

In Toledo, he owned a cigar store, then was a travel agent. They moved to Ottomwa, IA ~1984 and Emil was a bookkeeper.

Note

In his memoir, Eugene states his family arrived from Germany in 1951. Then, Emil was born two years later, the first of Eugene's American-born children.

Note

Eugene Fecht wrote in his family bible: "My son, Emil, was born 1853 Aug 29 at Eagle River, Northamerican Mine, county of Houghton." In 1853 when Emil was born, Eagle River was a copper mining boom town in the Michigan Upper Peninsula and seat of Houghton county. In 1861 it became the county seat of newly-formed Keweenaw county. Today it is an "unincorporated community" with no legal autonomy, part of both Allouez Township and Houghton Township.
